Grueby Pottery

A Brief History

The Grueby Pottery Company was established in 1897 by William Grueby in Boston, Massachusetts.  From it's inception they created beautiful, natural looking works in a traditional style.  In the 1900 Paris Exhibition Grueby won 2 gold and one silver medal.  These were in addition to numerous other, lesser known awards.  Although their work was very popular, the style & glazing techniques were copied by other makers, which eventually led to Gruebys bankruptcy in 1909.  After that time they continued to make pottery in very limited quantities, instead focusing primarily on ceramic tiles.  In 1920 Grueby Pottery closed its doors for good.  William past away in 1925.  Today this potters works are very collectible and VERY valuable.
