Roseville PotteryA Brief History
The company was founded by J. Weaver / George Young in Roseville, Ohio in 1890. Early on, the business successfully produced and sold strictly utilitarian items like pots and crocks. By 1898, Roseville had purchased Midland Pottery and Clark Stoneware Company, and moved operations to Zanesville, OH. Around 1900, in order to stay competitive in a changing market, Roseville released their first line of art pottery & obtained two more manufacturing facilities. Over the years many popular lines such as pinecone, sunflower and blackberry were created. However, after WWII sales began to decline and continued downward until the company was sold to the Mosaic Tile Co. in 1954. Today, Roseville pottery is extensively sought after by enthusiastic collectors. |

General Information and Websites In my opinion, Roseville is about mid-level as far as pottery collecting goes. I say this because the prices of their pieces are more than Mccoy, but certainly less than than say, Rookwood. It also seems, at least in my neck of the woods, that Roseville's wares are everywhere. I assume that lovers of their work, will at some point, be writing in anger, as many of their blue haired collectors are quite rabidly obsessed. (Take it easy folks, I'm just kidding around!) Anyway, they did create beautiful art pottery and there are many very good websites dedicated to them.
